  • Session 1 Activity: Dual Bottom-Line Matrix and blank activity sheet are available on pages 12-13 in the SPiN Workbook.
    • Draw the matrix on a piece of paper in front of you (or pull up p. 13 in the workbook)
    • Place your organization’s programs on the matrix (don’t overthink it!)
    • Reflect by yourself or with your team:
      • What are the effects of your organization’s current distribution of programs?
      • Do you have any programs with low mission impact and low financial viability? If yes, should the program(s) be discontinued or transitioned to another organization?
      • Are there programs that could be improved to increase mission impact? Or generate more revenue?
      • Are you committed to any “heart” programs even if additional fundraising is required? 

Suggested Assignments:

  • Have an internal conversation about readiness for strategic planning
  • Align on key organizational questions
  • Draft a timeline for planning
  • Identify key stakeholders
  • Draft a stakeholder engagement plan
  • Complete the nonprofit snapshot
  • Conduct a SWOT analysis with your team
