Hey nonprofit community! We’ve got some frustrating news to share. Scammers are at it again, pretending to sell attendee, distribution, and other lists for the upcoming Washington State Nonprofit Conference—happening May 13–14, with additional events in Spokane on May 16 and Tacoma on May 20 this year. These fraudsters are not affiliated with the Nonprofit Association of Washington (NAWA), and our distribution and attendee lists have not been compromised in any way and are secure.
But here’s the kicker: even outside of our conference season, these scammers might try to dupe you with similar tactics, targeting other nonprofit gatherings across Washington and beyond. Stay vigilant!
Let’s be clear: nonprofits are built on trust and community. We don’t betray our supporters by selling or sharing their information to the highest bidder. If sharing your information is ever necessary—for instance, with an event partner—you’ll be notified as you sign up or through email with a request for your consent.. This is our policy.
At NAWA, we uphold the highest standards:
- Consent First: We’ll always ask for your permission before sharing any of your information.
- Transparent Communication: Our emails will always come from our official domain: nonprofitwa.org.
- Verification Encouraged: If you receive a suspicious email claiming to be from us, don’t hesitate to screenshot it, delete it, and reach out directly to verify its authenticity.
These practices aren’t exclusive to NAWA. Apply the same caution with any organization you engage with.
Stay safe out there, and let’s continue building a trustworthy nonprofit community together!
