Remember…
- Prioritization is key — focus your work on the areas that will have the most impact. A focused strategic plan that prioritizes a few areas for action is most useful to your nonprofit.
- Identify no more than 3-5 strategic priorities that address both programs and organizational health. A balanced approach will distribute strategic priorities across programs, organizational health, and fundraising or fiscal health.
- To create more realistic objectives and to support greater overall strategic plan success, ensure the people responsible for implementing objectives are involved or consulted during the crafting of action steps and timelines.
- Your strategic plan should be aspirational yet achievable. How ambitious your strategic plan is may depend on a variety of factors, which you will want to discuss during the Plan stage.
