As I write to you, I am still reeling from hearing the news that superstar activist and nonprofit leader Sandy Williams died in a plane crash on September 4. Sandy liked to be behind the scenes, but she was a true visionary and tireless worker on behalf of the Black community in Spokane and LGBTQ civil rights. She worked collaboratively and never missed a chance to educate the community through the Black Lens and the Carl Maxey Center. Sandy demonstrated the tremendous difference that individuals can make on the lives of others, and all of us at NAWA are proud to have worked with her in different ways over the years. We are holding everyone who knew and loved Sandy in our hearts as we grieve the loss of this incredible woman.

Embrace today and take care of yourself,
