You joined a nonprofit board because you care about the organization’s mission. You want your contributions as a board member to positively affect the issues addressed by the organization. As a board, you want your nonprofit to thrive and make a difference in the communities served by your organization. Whether your nonprofit is just starting or is long established, getting your board in gear can help put your organization on a clear path forward.
 
This interactive, virtual workshop is based on the Boards in Gear resources developed in partnership with some of our state’s leading board experts. You will leave with concrete action steps, tools, and connections.
 
The virtual workshop will cover:
  1. Board responsibilities
  2. Board operations
  3. Composition and development
  4. Fundraising
  5. Advocacy

This workshop will be recorded. Registrants will receive the recording by email after the event. If you can’t attend the training but you are interested in learning about this topic, please register so you we can send you the recording and materials.   

Nonprofits Serving Whidbey Island: Whidbey Community Foundation partnered with NAWA to bring you a $5 in-person follow-up session. Fill out this form to confirm your eligibility. Boards in Gear is Part 1 of the of the Nonprofit Fundamentals Series. Register for the series to strengthen your board’s performance and decision-making.

FREE – This event is free thanks to a partnership with the Washington Office of the Secretary of State. 

Who Should Attend

This workshop is designed for board members and the people who work with them, namely executive directors and program staff. It offers ideas for new board members and those who have served for a long time. It is appropriate for organizations of all sizes, whether they have staff or not.

Accessibility

Captioning: We will have automated captioning enabled.

Interpretation: Please indicate during registration if you have an interpretation request. Typically, we need at least two weeks in order to schedule an interpreter.

Visual Descriptions: Presenters will include visual descriptions of themselves and the slides to give a person who is low-vision, blind, or calling in without video a sense of space and place.
