Nonprofits have more freedom than they realize to design a governance system that works for their specific organization and circumstances. This Innovation Summit is an invitation to examine your board governance structure and move toward a more liberatory model.

During the Innovation Summit, we will:

  • Review the history of nonprofit boards and the ways in which different powerful stakeholders have co-opted and distorted boards for their personal gain.
  • Consider current conditions that nonprofits are operating in, and how the “standard governance system model” can interfere with rather than aid in achieving goals and embodying organizational values.
  • Learn about organizations doing things differently, and explore a new framework for governance systems that focuses on two main board realms of responsibilities: accountability and resourcing.
  • Apply this learning to assess the current state of your current governance model and consider specific, actionable changes that could make your organization’s board more effective.

During the live session, there was extended time to meet with others from your organization or participate in group discussions. We suggest that you set aside time after watching the recording to discuss what actions are right for your organization with others from your nonprofit.

Who Should Attend

Organizational change work requires engagement from all parts of an organization. For this reason, we strongly encourage teams of board and staff to attend and learn together. To encourage team participation, we are offering a special organizational rate. We will spend time in breakout sessions where attendees can talk about how to apply concepts discussed throughout the Summit.
